The Importance of Exercise Wheels for Hedgehogs

Exercise wheels are essential for hedgehogs, providing them with the physical activity they need to stay healthy. In the wild, hedgehogs can cover several miles each night in search of food, so it's crucial to replicate this natural behavior in captivity. A proper wheel, with a solid surface and adequate size (at least 12 inches in diameter), allows your hedgehog to run safely without causing injury to their feet or back. Regular running helps maintain a healthy weight, supports cardiovascular health, and provides mental stimulation. Without a proper wheel, hedgehogs may become overweight, stressed, or develop other health issues.
