Crossed Rainbow Bridge: August 26, 2024 🌈
Waffles joined our family when
her previous owner had to move and couldn’t keep her. Though it was a
difficult decision for her to part with Waffles, she felt comforted
knowing Waffles was going to a hedgehog-experienced home. Waffles may
be a bit more on the "cranky" side and has her quirks—like not being a
fan of bugs or running on a wheel—but she's a cutie who has captured
our hearts with her unique personality.
Update:
Waffles was wobbly and unsteady on her feet so we took her to
the exotics specialist on 8/23, she was diagnosed as being old, having
Anemia and an infection, they gave her an iron injection and Vitamin B
Complex, we thought she was going to do well because Friday she ate
well, but Saturday and Sunday she refused to eat anything, even her
favorite freeze dried raw. We helped her cross rainbow bridge
on 8/26/24. Our hearts are broken but we know we made the
selfless decision and put her best interest at heart.
Crossing
the Rainbow Bridge
As I reflect on Waffles' life and the love she brought into our home, I
find solace in the words of the Rainbow Bridge poem:
“Just
this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can
run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm
and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and
vigor;
Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
Just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
They each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly
stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass,
his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally
meet,
You cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the
beloved head,
And you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone
from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…”
In
Loving Memory
Waffles may no longer be with us in body, but her spirit will forever
remain a part of our family. She taught us so much about resilience,
love, and the joy that comes from caring for those who need it most.
We’ll miss her dearly, but we take comfort in knowing that she’s no
longer in pain and that one day, we’ll meet again.
Until
then, sweet Waffles, run free across the Rainbow Bridge.
